Background
For remote collaboration, live events, or distance learning, users often need to transmit video directly from one location to another over the Internet without relying on complex server infrastructures. Traditional workflows may involve multiple encoders, decoders, and network configurations, which increase setup difficulty and technical requirements.
Using ZowieBox, it is possible to establish a simple, reliable P2P video transmission with minimal setup, supporting both RTMP and SRT protocols.
Products Used
• 2 × ZowieBox (one as encoder, one as decoder)
• HDMI video source (camera, PC, or media player)
• PoE switch
• Display device for decoded output
Solution Highlights
1. Encoder for Internet Streaming
One ZowieBox acts as an encoder, pushing video to the Internet via RTMP or SRT.
Connect the HDMI video source to the encoder.
Recommended resolution: 1080p60 / 1080p50.In the web interface: Settings → Streaming → Internet → +Add, enter the streaming name and URL, save, and start streaming.
2. Decoder for Remote Playback
The second ZowieBox acts as a decoder, receiving the RTMP/SRT stream.
Switch the working mode to Decoder Mode via Settings → System → Working Mode.
In the web interface: Settings → Streaming → Decoder → +Add, enter the corresponding pull URL, save, and open the decoder.
Connect the HDMI output to a display to view the decoded video.
3. Simple Network Setup
Both devices connect to a PoE switch, ensuring power and network connectivity over a single cable. This setup supports straightforward deployment in offices, studios, or remote locations.
Outcome
1.Direct Point-to-Point Streaming
Video is transmitted over the Internet directly from encoder to decoder with minimal latency.
2.Easy Operation
Once configured, the encoder and decoder operate reliably without continuous technical supervision.
3.Flexible Protocol Support
Supports both RTMP and SRT, making it compatible with standard streaming workflows and software.
